Starfleet Avatar Store on Xbox Live

imageYou know how people take a great idea and go too far? You know how a joke suddenly goes serious and the whole group gets a little uncomfortable. It reminds me of Galaxy Quest (1999) when the Captain Kirk spoof, Jason, call his obsessed fan, Brandon (Justin Long from Ed!):

  • Brandon Wheeger: I just wanted to tell you that I thought a lot about what you said.
  • Jason Nesmith: It's okay, now listen...
  • But I want you to know that I'm not a complete brain case, okay? I understand completely that it's just a TV show. I know there's no beryllium sphere...
  • Hold it.
  • digital conveyor, no ship...
  • Stop for a second, stop. It's all real.
  • Oh my God, I knew it. I knew it! I knew it!

Okay, sure, Star Trek isn’t real, but the Xbox Live avatar store has introduced new Star Trek The Next Generation duds. Some are dumb. But some are just plain fun. I’ve updated my avatar in the spirit of the new movie this summer. Plus, it might be said, in a fictional world like Xbox Live, Star Trek is as real as anything else. So why not play along? Nothing wrong with living long, or prospering. :)

imageHere’s a comment I get a lot recently (especially in light of the Xbox One reveal: “What does Microsoft have to do with Xbox?” Ha ha! How about we make it! And, Kinect! And, Halo! And, Fable! And, Joy Ride! And, Gears of War! And, Skybox Sports! And,  it goes on and on…
